Puzhehei National Tourist Resort of Wenshan
Puzhehei National Tourist Resort is located in Qiubei County, Wenshan in Southeast Yunnan, and 280 km from Kunming. It takes on Karst geological features and covers a total area of 165 square kilometers. It was noted for the world- rare and domestic-unique karst landscape and pastoral scenery since 1993. The scenic area gets known for hills, lakes, underground Karst caves and ethnic villages etc. There are altogether 256 tourist sites, 312 isolate hills (peaks), 83 caves, 54 lakes and 40,000 acres of Karst wetlands. There are about 100 karst caves, most with two floors - a higher dry cave and a lower wet cave with an elevation of 1,450 meters. Puzhehei is deemed "the unique pastoral land with Karst landforms" and "beautiful paradise".

Ethnics living there are mainly Yi, Zhuang and Miao, all of whom have developed colorful ethnic cultures of their own. With the history of more than 1,000 years, most known inPuzhehei, Puzhehei Yi Painted-Face Festival is the unique traditional festival of Yis in Qiubei County, Yunnan. During the festival, there are activities such as grand performance for the opening ceremony, face-painting carnival, water splashing and fish catching competition. The climax of the activity is when people blacken faces mutually with pot sotto express good wishes. On the festival, lard and chimney soot is mixed into paste. People smear each other with paste to make fun. 

Mizhi festival is one of the main traditional festivals spent by the Sani people living in counties such as Shilin, Mile and Qiubei etc. Functioning as a religious service of the Sanis, it is routinely held from the second Rat Day to the Horse Day of the lunar November, lasting about seven days; it's billed as "men's day" because many ceremonies are merely attended by male Sani villagers.

In the scenic spot there are 312 peaks standing independent from each other,56 lakes which are clear and without any pollution,83 all kinds of caves, a great many muss of water lilies which give off faint scents, and original folk customs. All these beautiful natural sights form a pattern of "three sections and two waterfalls".

Dashanbao Black-necked Crane Nature Reserve
Dashanbao Black-necked Crane Nature Reserve is situated in Dashanbao Township in Zhaoyang District of Zhaotong Municipality. Covering a total area of 19,200 hectares, the Reserve is a plateau marshland. In 2003 it was ratified as a state-level nature reserve.

Since the 1950s, black-necked cranes have flied to Dashanbao, Zhaoyang District, Zhaotong City every October and stayed until the next April. The birds have gradually attracted researchers, photographers and tourists. Now, Dashanbao has been listed in international important wet lands and China's national-level natural reserves.

What are mainly protected inside the Reserve is black-necked cranes and their winter habitat. There are 56 families of vascular plants, falling into 131 genera and 181 species, including ferns of 9 families, 10 genera, and 11 species; spermatophyte of 47 families, 121genera and 170 species. Simultaneously animals protected inside include 10 orders, 28families and 68 species.

The most valuable protected animal in Dashanbao Nature Reserve is black-necked crane. According to official statistics, its number has increased to approximately 1130 from 300 in1990; other birds include: erne, gray crane, goshawk, glade, sparrow hawk, common buzzard, white-tailed willet and Asian barred owlet etc.

Since the time when Dashanbao Nature Reserve was established, sub-alpine wetland and wet grassland, which are the major habitat of the black-cranes to spend winter in Yunnan, have been conserved effectively. It is of great significance for conservation of the bio-diversity.

The Lashi Lake in Lijiang
Lashihai (Lashi Hai & previously more commonly known as Lashiba Hai) is a sizeable lake, 20 kilometers almost directly west of Lijiang, that holds large numbers of wintering waterfowl (often including small numbers of Falcate Duck), common cranes and occasional birds of prey such as White-tailed Eagle.

Lashi Lake provides habitat for 198 bird species — 77 of which are migratory shore birds. This area has the greatest abundance of bird species in Yunnan. As many as 80,000 birds migrate to this wetland during winter. Three are National First-Ranked Protection species: the black stork, black-necked crane, and hooded crane.

Nestled at the center of the Lijiang County of Southwest China's Yunnan Province, the Lijiang Lashihai Plateau Wetland Nature Reserve was established in 1998 by the Yunnan Provincial government to preserve an indispensable wetland habitat.
